The Mysteries of Rahu and Ketu

Indian astrology discusses the nine planets, twelve signs, and constellations, including the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu. Among these, Rahu and Ketu are shadow planets that are always retrograde and operate in their retrograde motion. These two planets are positioned exactly 180° apart from each other. Their significances are entirely different. For example, Rahu is capable of seeing things and becomes attracted, creating allure through showiness. In contrast, Ketu cannot see but can feel. Ketu is not attractive; it separates. Ketu does not show off and knows how to let go of resources even when it possesses them. This is why Rahu feels good when it approaches Venus, which represents luxury and enjoyment, as Venus is also the teacher of demons. Conversely, Ketu feels happy when it comes near Jupiter, which embodies virtue, spirituality, and peace and is the teacher of the gods.

Common Characteristics of Rahu and Ketu:

IN HINDI

Firstly, according to Indian astrology, Rahu and Ketu are depicted as shadow planets, meaning they have no physical form. They lack any material shape; they can be indefinite and extremely subtle. The point where the orbit of the Sun intersects with the orbit of the Moon is called Rahu, or it can also be described as a new type of immense energy that Rahu forms. Contrarily, Ketu is positioned 180° from Rahu. Since Rahu and Ketu do not have any form, it is very challenging to understand them, which is why Rahu is considered the planet of illusion and delusion. To put it simply, it can be said, “I am Ra-Hu,” where “Ra” signifies that I am both Ram and Raavan. Rahu is a vast, indefinite energy that believes in instant transformation of situations. Rahu is a planet that can grant a person heights overnight and can also snatch those heights away just as quickly. On the other hand, Ketu is an energy that does not care about anyone; it has no concern whether anyone knows it or not, and it is indifferent to recognition. Ketu finds it easy to let go, even when it possesses something; it does not hold onto anything. It lacks senses to know anything because it is merely a torso.
According to mythological legends, Rahu is associated with the head, and Ketu is associated with the torso of the body. The head is where our nose, ears, and other senses reside, and Rahu has full control over these senses, while the rest of the torso belongs to Ketu. Because Rahu has great influence over the senses and lacks a torso, the senses continually desire but are never satisfied. Hence, Rahu’s insatiable desires are always grand; when one desire is fulfilled, it yearns for something greater. This is why Rahu is also described as being obsessed with anything. However, it does not like to work continuously, preferring shortcuts instead. Therefore, it does not shy away from engaging in unethical activities. It employs all four strategies—persuasion, payment, punishment, and division—to accomplish tasks. Rahu also engages in ostentation and display. Meanwhile, Ketu, being the torso, believes in performing actions in life; it lacks senses, having only the lower body, which is utilized solely by the senses. This is why Ketu is referred to as the planet of spirituality and liberation. Ketu possesses a mysterious energy that no one can fully comprehend, nor can anyone predict it. Since it feels but does not see, it is very profound. Ketu represents height, therefore, it is also the symbol of the flag, while Rahu symbolizes a pit and the drains. Thus, it is essential to avoid the negative influence of Rahu and continually strive to embody Ketu.
